In the 118th Congress, there were 99 veterans at the start: 82 in the House and 17 in the Senate. They shared what Memorial Day means to them. They spend the day honoring those who died for the country. They feel grateful for the freedoms they have because of the sacrifices made by brave Americans. They reflect on the friends they lost in wars like Iraq and Afghanistan. Memorial Day is a time to remember and honor those who served but didn't come home. It's a day of reflection and gratitude for the ultimate sacrifice made for the nation. Military veteran Rep. Brian Mast shared his emotional experience of Memorial Day. He remembers his friends who died in service and feels the weight of their sacrifice. Brian Mast is a combat veteran and Purple Heart recipient who served in Afghanistan. He lost both legs during Operation Enduring Freedom in 2010. Since 2017, he has represented Florida’s 21st Congressional District.
