Chicago's Youth for Peace walk started in Humboldt Park on a Saturday afternoon. This event has been happening for almost 30 years. It brings together city leaders, organizations against violence, victims, and survivors of gun violence. They all gather to call for peace as summer nears. The event is emotional as it aims to stop violence against young people. Some attendees share their own stories of survival. The walk continued at the Humboldt Park Fieldhouse with food, games, performances, and resources for the community. Ald. Jessie Fuentes (26th) explained why this event is important. She mentioned the need for resources like housing and job opportunities. Fuentes emphasized that the march symbolizes a call for peace. She stressed the importance of taking action to create peace by providing families with the support they deserve. The festivities were planned to last until around 7 p.m. on Saturday. Community leaders and organizations wanted to show that being out late and in the dark can still be safe. They hoped to make a strong statement about promoting safety and peace in the community.
