ABC host Lisa Millar leaves morning show to focus on new projects

ABC News Breakfast host Lisa Millar has announced her departure from the program after five years of co-hosting with Michael Rowland. The 55-year-old journalist will also be leaving the broadcaster's news division after 31 years to focus on creating TV programs such as Back Roads and Muster Dogs, along with new projects. Millar expressed excitement about the future opportunities ahead and the privilege of being part of new ventures. In a statement, the director of ABC News, Justin Stevens, praised Millar's dedication and energy during her time on News Breakfast, describing it as one of the most challenging roles in TV. The ABC chief content officer, Chris Oliver-Taylor, confirmed that Millar would be joining his team full-time to work on existing projects and develop new shows. Millar, a seasoned foreign correspondent, has narrated series and authored books related to her work. Despite facing online abuse and criticism, Millar decided to leave Twitter in 2021, citing concerns about the negative impact of social media bullying on women in the public eye. The ABC condemned the abuse directed at Millar and highlighted the importance of not giving anonymous trolls a platform. Millar's departure from News Breakfast will mark the end of an era, with her final day on the show set for August 23. Reflecting on her time at ABC, Millar expressed gratitude for the support she received in response to the trolling incidents, particularly on International Women's Day.
