Story

Cleveland Browns have finalized a trade sending kicker Cade York to the Washington Commanders in exchange for a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, according to league sources. The move comes as the Commanders released their current kicker, Riley Patterson, who struggled during the preseason, converting only 2 of 5 field goal attempts. York, a fourth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, had a mixed tenure with the Browns. In his rookie season, he successfully made 24 of 32 field goal attempts, but was released last offseason. Following his release, York spent time on the practice squads of the Tennessee Titans and New York Giants before re-signing with the Browns in March. During the current preseason, he has made both of his field goal attempts. As the Browns prepare for the upcoming season, they will rely on Dustin Hopkins as their starting kicker. Hopkins, acquired in a trade from the Los Angeles Chargers last offseason, had an impressive performance last year, making 33 of 36 field goal attempts. Over his nine-year career, he has maintained an 85.8% success rate on field goals. The Browns are set to face the Seattle Seahawks in their preseason finale on Saturday night, with their regular season opener against the Dallas Cowboys scheduled for September 8 in Cleveland.
