Story

Fulham FC has made a formal offer for Lyon's attacking midfielder Rayan Cherki, as the club seeks to bolster its attacking options before the transfer window closes next week. Crystal Palace is also interested in Cherki but has yet to submit a bid. In addition to pursuing Cherki, Fulham is close to finalizing deals for Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen and Burnley’s Sander Berge. Cherki, 21, is entering the final year of his contract with Lyon and has been training separately from his teammates, signaling his anticipation of a potential transfer. The young midfielder is considered one of the most promising talents to come from Lyon's academy, although he has faced challenges with consistency and securing regular starting positions over the past 18 months. Since making his debut at just 16 years old, Cherki has made significant strides, becoming the youngest goalscorer in Lyon's history and the youngest player to participate in a Champions League semi-final. He has accumulated 141 appearances for Lyon and has represented France at the under-21 level, contributing to a silver medal win at the recent Olympic Games in Paris. Last season, Cherki played 39 matches, starting 23, and recorded three goals and nine assists during a tumultuous period for Lyon, which saw three managerial changes. The club is currently looking to rebound after a disappointing start to the new season, having lost their opening match 3-0 against Rennes.
