AC Milan Signs Emerson Royal from Tottenham for £15m

AC Milan has officially secured the signing of Tottenham Hotspur defender Emerson Royal for a fee of £15 million. The Brazilian centre-back has committed to a four-year contract with the Italian club, which includes an option for an additional year. Royal's move marks his exit from the Premier League after a challenging tenure in England, where he made 101 appearances and scored four goals since joining Spurs from Barcelona in 2021 for approximately £25.8 million. Despite high expectations upon his arrival, Royal struggled to maintain consistent form under various Tottenham managers, leading to a mixed reception from fans, including moments of discontent. The arrival of Micky van de Ven last year further complicated his position, as Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou established a starting defensive partnership that limited Royal's opportunities on the pitch. In other transfer news, Chelsea's 19-year-old left-back Caleb Wiley will spend the upcoming season on loan at French Ligue 1 club Strasbourg. Wiley, who recently joined Chelsea from Atlanta United for around £8.5 million, will continue his development under the guidance of coach Liam Rosenior after representing the USA at the Olympic Games. Additionally, Manchester City midfielder Ben Knight has departed the club to join Spanish side Real Murcia on a permanent basis. The 22-year-old, who has had previous loan spells at Crewe and Stockport, made just one competitive appearance for City during the 2021 Community Shield.
