Michael Owen has suggested that Ruud van Nistelrooy could potentially become the manager of Manchester United in the future. Owen noted that, similar to former players like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Van Nistelrooy may find himself in the managerial role if Ten Hag departs. During a discussion with OLBG, Owen remarked on the uncertainty surrounding Ten Hag's tenure, stating, “if it’s five games, 50 games or 500 games, Erik ten Hag will go at some point.” He speculated that if Van Nistelrooy remains at the club when Ten Hag leaves, he could be given a chance to manage the team temporarily, akin to the experiences of Ryan Giggs and Michael Carrick in the past. Rene Meulensteen, who served as Sir Alex Ferguson's assistant, echoed Owen's sentiments, suggesting that Sir Jim Ratcliffe might consider Van Nistelrooy as a managerial candidate should Ten Hag exit.
