Story

John Honey, currently on remand, has been characterized as "over confident and jovial," reportedly asking a probation officer if they wanted his autograph. His behavior, which included stopping at a Greggs for refreshments after being exposed to police pepper spray, has drawn significant attention on social media. Honey faces multiple charges, including three counts of burglary related to break-ins at Lush, Shoezone, and O2 shops in Hull on August 3, where various items were stolen. In addition to the burglary charges, Honey has confessed to violent disorder and racially aggravated criminal damage, which includes vandalizing a BMW and causing damage to nine vehicles, such as a Ford C-Max and an Audi A4. The damage at Shoezone alone is estimated at £320,000. Honey was identified on CCTV during the incidents, notably wearing a distinctive white top with a red cross, and was a prominent figure in the public disorder that unfolded. The court heard that Honey played a significant role in confrontations with police, particularly outside a hotel, and was involved in an incident where a group of 100 to 200 individuals threatened three men in a BMW. Although he did not physically assault the men, they managed to escape towards police protection. The court is expected to obtain a statement from the probation officer regarding Honey's conduct while in custody.
