Story

A new tropical system in the Atlantic Ocean is being monitored closely by AccuWeather meteorologists, as it may pose a potential threat to the East Coast of the United States. Currently, the system is not expected to organize into a tropical depression by Sunday, but its trajectory could change as it approaches the Leeward Islands early next week. Meteorologist DaSilva noted that if the system survives and reaches the Caribbean, it has a good chance of developing into a tropical storm. The future path of this tropical feature will likely be influenced by the westward extension of the Bermuda/Azores high-pressure area. In the short term, the Leeward Islands will face the most immediate risk, followed by Puerto Rico and the Bahamas later in the week. If the system develops into a hurricane but remains east of the U.S. Atlantic coast, it could still generate rough seas, increased surf, and strong rip currents. Currently, the Gulf Coast is not under threat from this system. However, if it remains weak, it may have a better chance of moving westward. AccuWeather meteorologists predict a highly active Atlantic hurricane season this year, with numerous tropical storms and hurricanes expected. Many of these storms may experience rapid intensification due to higher-than-average ocean temperatures, raising concerns for coastal areas.
