In a unique incident on the Atal Setu bridge, a 22-year-old driver, Shoaib Ali Khan, attempted to evade a toll fee of Rs 200 by crashing into the toll boom. The incident occurred on Monday as Khan was returning to Ulwe from Mumbai after a business trip. According to police reports, Khan did not have sufficient funds to pay the toll and chose to break through the barrier instead. As Khan approached the Shivaji Nagar toll naka, he was reportedly speeding when he collided with the boom. Toll employee Adesh Deshmukh attempted to stop the vehicle but was injured as Khan continued to drive away. The situation escalated until two toll employees managed to overpower Khan and his vehicle, leading to his apprehension. Authorities have registered a case against Khan under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicle Act, including charges for rash driving and endangering human life. Police emphasized that Khan's actions were reckless, noting that he could have opted to communicate with the toll staff or use digital payment methods instead of resorting to such dangerous behavior. A notice has been issued to Khan by the police, highlighting the seriousness of the incident and the potential legal consequences he faces for his actions. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to traffic regulations and the dangers of attempting to evade toll payments.
