MIDDLEBURY, Vt. — An enthusiastic gathering of approximately 210 dogs and their owners came together in Vermont to watch the Netflix documentary "Inside the Mind of a Dog," but the event fell short of breaking the world record for the largest dog movie screening. Organizers aimed to surpass the current record of 219 dogs, set during a screening of "PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie" in Los Angeles earlier this year. Lisa Mitchell, the director's spouse and one of the event's organizers, confirmed that the official count reached 210 dogs, just shy of the 220 needed to claim the Guinness World Record. Despite 280 registrations for the event, about 70 participants did not show up, which contributed to the shortfall. Mitchell noted that some dogs attended without prior registration, prompting organizers to review video footage to determine if the actual number of dogs present was higher than the official count. The event took place at the Memorial Sports Center in Middlebury, showcasing the community's enthusiasm for both dogs and cinema. While the attempt to set a new record was unsuccessful, the turnout highlighted the strong interest in canine-themed events and the joy of pet owners coming together for a shared experience. Organizers remain hopeful for future opportunities to break the record and celebrate the bond between dogs and their owners.
