Indiana woman missing after rescuing friends in Puerto Rico rip current

On September 9, a 22-year-old woman from Indianapolis went missing while attempting to rescue two friends caught in a rip current at Condado Beach in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The incident occurred during a swimming outing with her friends, who were in distress in the water. Bystanders and local rescue personnel managed to assist the two friends to safety, but the woman who tried to help them did not return. The Coast Guard received an emergency call at 6:32 p.m. local time, reporting the situation at the beach. In response, they deployed an MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter, an HC-144 Ocean Sentry plane, and a 33-foot special purpose craft for law enforcement to conduct a search operation. Additionally, the Puerto Rico Police Joint Forces of Rapid Action marine units and state and municipal Emergency Management rescue teams joined the efforts. Carlos Acevedo, the director of the Municipal Emergency Management Office, highlighted the bravery of the missing woman, noting that she was someone who instinctively sought to help others in danger. Unfortunately, her selfless act has led to her disappearance, raising concerns among her family and friends. The search for the woman continues, with authorities working diligently to locate her.
