Holland America Line has announced a new series of celestial-themed cruises designed for travelers eager to witness extraordinary natural phenomena, including the northern lights and a total solar eclipse. The Seattle-based cruise line revealed these itineraries on Monday, highlighting prime locations across Europe where guests can experience these events firsthand. Three of Holland America's ships will be strategically positioned to offer optimal views of the total solar eclipse on August 12, 2026. The Oosterdam will embark on a 13-day Mediterranean cruise, sailing between Alicante and Barcelona, while the Nieuw Statendam will explore Northern Europe on a 28-day journey off the northwest coast of Iceland. Additionally, the Zuiderdam will undertake a 35-day Voyage of the Vikings, departing from Boston and making stops in various locations, including Greenland and Iceland, before reaching the path of totality. For those interested in the northern lights, Holland America is launching two dedicated cruises aboard the Rotterdam and Nieuw Statendam. These voyages will include an overnight stay in Alta, Norway, known as The City of the Northern Lights, and will spend five days above the Arctic Circle. The first cruise departs on October 4, 2026, from Rotterdam to Amsterdam. Moreover, the Nieuw Statendam will host a 14-day cruise celebrating the summer solstice in Honningsvåg, Norway. Early booking discounts are available for premium packages, including up to $400 onboard credit for Mariner Society loyalty members, with bookings opening on July 31.
