Eastern Michigan University is collaborating with Engage @ EMU to launch the third annual 'Explore Ypsi' initiative, aimed at enhancing community engagement and supporting local businesses. This semester-long program will distribute 2,000 $10 gift cards to students, faculty, and staff, available at Boone Hall 203 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays. The gift cards can be utilized at 25 participating local businesses, including dining establishments, hair care services, and hardware stores, fostering a connection between the university community and Ypsilanti's local economy. In addition to the existing businesses, this year's program will also feature the Ypsilanti Farmers Market, further promoting local agriculture and food access. Each participant is eligible to receive one gift card per valid EMU email, ensuring that a wide range of individuals can benefit from this initiative. The program not only provides financial support to students and staff but also encourages them to explore and discover the offerings of Ypsilanti. Sam Carter, the communications and operations manager for Engage @ EMU, emphasized the program's dual purpose of supporting the university community and the local economy. By using the gift cards, participants can experience Ypsilanti in a new light, discovering local gems that they might not have explored otherwise. This initiative is a testament to the university's commitment to fostering community ties and enhancing the overall student experience. Overall, the 'Explore Ypsi' program represents a significant effort to strengthen the relationship between Eastern Michigan University and the surrounding community, promoting local businesses while enriching the lives of students and staff. It highlights the importance of community engagement and the positive impact of supporting local economies.
