Early Saturday morning, U.S. Air Force security guards engaged in a gunfight with an unidentified shooter who targeted the entrance of Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland. The first incident occurred around 2:15 a.m., when shots were fired from a passing vehicle. Base spokesperson Stefanie Antosh confirmed that the security forces responded promptly, and fortunately, there were no injuries reported. Following the initial shooting, security personnel increased their presence as a precaution. Just after 4:30 a.m., the same vehicle returned to the entrance and opened fire again. In response, multiple Air Force personnel returned fire, but the suspect vehicle fled the scene. The San Antonio Police Department is currently investigating the incidents, although the suspects are not believed to have any military affiliation. Despite the alarming events, Antosh assured that there was no ongoing threat to the base, which houses over 24,000 active duty members, along with civilians and contractors. The entrance to the base was temporarily closed for several hours following the shootings but was reopened around 9:30 a.m. The investigation continues, with authorities still determining the number of shots fired and the motive behind the attacks. Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland is part of a larger military complex that includes Randolph Air Force Base and Fort Sam Houston, underscoring the strategic importance of the area.
