Tesco Increases Meal Deal Prices Again

Tesco has announced a price increase for its popular meal deal, marking the second hike in two years. Starting Thursday, the cost for Clubcard members will rise by 20p to £3.60, while non-members will see a 10p increase to £4. The supermarket attributes this adjustment to enhancements in the quality of ingredients and an expanded selection of items available in the meal deal, which includes a sandwich or salad, a snack, and a drink. This latest price change comes during a challenging economic period for consumers, following a similar increase by Sainsbury's just a month prior. Sainsbury's raised its meal deal price from £3.50 to £3.75, marking its first increase in three years. Tesco's previous price adjustment occurred in October 2022, when it raised the meal deal from £3 to £3.40 for Clubcard holders and from £3.50 to £3.90 for others. Despite the price hikes, Tesco maintains that its meal deal continues to offer significant value, especially for Clubcard members, who represent 80% of meal deal purchasers. The supermarket emphasizes that many meal combinations would exceed £8 if bought separately. A Tesco spokesperson highlighted the variety available, noting the introduction of over 20 new mains this summer. The premium meal deal range will remain unchanged, priced at £5 for Clubcard members and £5.50 for non-members, as Tesco aims to cater to diverse customer preferences while navigating the current economic landscape.
