Delhi Minister Calls Kejriwal a Modern Freedom Fighter

New Delhi: On the occasion of the 78th Independence Day, Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot extended his greetings and paid tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for India's freedom, as well as to the soldiers safeguarding the nation's borders. Gahlot emphasized the significance of the day, stating, "Happy 78th Independence Day. So many sacrifices and efforts were made to attain this freedom." However, he expressed sorrow over the current situation of Delhi's democratically elected Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, who is imprisoned. Gahlot hailed Kejriwal as a "modern freedom fighter," highlighting his commitment to alleviating poverty and illiteracy. He remarked on Kejriwal's willingness to face imprisonment for actions he deemed unjust, asserting that true independence should not result in the incarceration of an elected leader. He also mentioned the arrest of Manish Sisodia, whom he referred to as the "father of the modern education revolution," further underscoring the political challenges faced by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). In a related development, the AAP launched a subtle critique of the central government after the national flag was not hoisted at the Chief Minister's residence. Sunita Kejriwal, the CM's wife, took to Twitter to highlight this incident, which occurred as Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena hoisted the flag at his official residence. The political climate remains tense as the AAP continues to navigate the implications of Kejriwal's arrest by the CBI in June 2024.
