CBI Takes Over Abhishek Ghosalkar Murder Case in Mumbai
- The CBI has registered a case against Mauris Noronha for the murder of Abhishek Ghosalkar, which occurred during a Facebook live session.
- The Bombay High Court ordered the transfer of the investigation to the CBI, citing concerns over the thoroughness of the initial police inquiry.
- The decision aims to ensure a credible investigation and restore public confidence in the judicial process.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken over the investigation into the murder of Abhishek Ghosalkar, a former Shiv Sena (UBT) corporator, following a directive from the Bombay High Court. Ghosalkar was allegedly killed on February 8 during a Facebook live session in Borivali by businessman Mauris Noronha, who reportedly used a gun belonging to his bodyguard. After the incident, Noronha is said to have taken his own life. The Bombay High Court's decision to transfer the case to the CBI was influenced by concerns that the initial investigation by the Mumbai police did not adequately explore all angles of the case. Ghosalkar's widow, Tejasvee, had expressed dissatisfaction with the police's progress, describing her husband's murder as a brutal and heinous act that required a more thorough investigation. The court emphasized the importance of a credible and impartial investigation, stating that any lapses in the initial inquiry could lead to a miscarriage of justice. It highlighted the necessity of examining all aspects of the case to ensure that justice is served and public confidence in the investigation process is maintained. In its directive, the court instructed the CBI to appoint a senior officer to lead the investigation, ensuring that the case receives the attention it warrants. The transfer of the case to the CBI is not a critique of the previous investigation but rather a step towards ensuring a comprehensive examination of the circumstances surrounding Ghosalkar's death.
