India Shifts to Renewable Energy with New Nuclear Plan

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) - During the 11th convocation of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman emphasized India's commitment to transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable energy, asserting that the nation is taking this step independently. She highlighted that while global promises of financial support for this transition have been made, the funds have yet to materialize, prompting India to utilize its own resources to fulfill commitments made during the Paris Agreement. Sitharaman underscored the necessity for advancements in chemistry, calling for India to take a leadership role in this field. She mentioned the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre's initiative to develop a modular plan for smaller nuclear energy production facilities, which could play a crucial role in the country's energy strategy. The minister urged students to leverage their education to create sustainable solutions, particularly in developing batteries for renewable energy storage. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also addressed the gathering, stressing the importance of innovation in today's world. He congratulated the graduates, asserting that their degrees represent more than just academic achievement; they signify a potential to contribute meaningfully to society. Yadav reflected on India's historical context, noting that knowledge and education have always been vital, especially in light of past invasions that targeted educational institutions.
