GRAND PRAIRIE — A tragic crash in Grand Prairie on Saturday evening has left four people dead, with police suspecting that street racing was a contributing factor. The incident occurred around 8 p.m. on South Belt Line Road, where first responders arrived at the scene to find a red Dodge Charger and a Chevy Traverse involved in a violent collision. Witnesses reported seeing the red Charger racing another vehicle before it crashed into the SUV, resulting in a loud explosion and the SUV catching fire. Three individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, while two others were transported to the hospital in serious condition; one of them later succumbed to their injuries. The driver of the red Charger, identified as 20-year-old Jaime Mesa from Irving, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is currently in police custody. According to authorities, Mesa was allegedly racing a white Dodge Charger Daytona when the crash occurred. Mesa faces multiple charges, including four counts of racing on a highway causing death, four counts of manslaughter, and additional charges related to serious bodily injury and aggravated assault. The driver of the second vehicle, 22-year-old Anthony Morales, was arrested the following night and is also charged with four counts of racing on a highway causing death and one count of racing causing serious bodily injury.
