Srinagar: Congress Leaders Rally Support Ahead of Jammu and Kashmir Elections

As the Election Commission of India announced the dates for state assembly elections in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge convened a meeting with party workers in Jammu and Kashmir. During the event, Rahul Gandhi emphasized the importance of representing the people of Jammu and Kashmir and restoring their statehood, stating, "You are not workers, you are family." He highlighted the unique historical context of Jammu and Kashmir, noting that it is the only region where statehood was revoked and converted into a union territory. Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress President and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, reinforced Gandhi's message, asserting that Rahul Gandhi has a deep-rooted connection to Jammu and Kashmir. He urged voters to support Congress in the upcoming elections, claiming that a victory in Jammu and Kashmir would have broader implications for the entire country. Kharge criticized the ruling BJP, suggesting that their focus on Congress stems from the party's ability to provide a formidable challenge in the political landscape. In light of the meeting, security measures were heightened around the venue, reflecting the tense political atmosphere. The Congress party is expected to contest the Jammu and Kashmir elections in alliance with the National Conference, although an official announcement regarding the coalition is still pending. Both parties previously collaborated during the Lok Sabha elections as part of the INDIA bloc, indicating a strategic approach to the upcoming electoral battle.
