Oshkosh, Wisconsin, has achieved a historic milestone by being named the most desirable housing market in the United States, according to the Realtor.com® Hottest Housing Markets rankings for July. The city, known for being the home of the clothing brand OshKosh B’Gosh, boasts a median home listing price of $374,000, significantly lower than the national median of $439,950. This price point reflects a growing interest in Midwest real estate, despite a notable decrease in available inventory. In July, Oshkosh experienced a 24.2% increase in listing levels year-over-year; however, the number of homes for sale remains 72.8% lower than pre-pandemic levels. This stark contrast between limited inventory and high buyer demand has propelled Oshkosh to the forefront of the housing market rankings. The Northeast and Midwest regions are the only areas to secure spots on the list, each contributing ten metropolitan areas to the top 20. Following Oshkosh, the top five markets include Rockford, Illinois, with a median home price of $216,000, and Akron, Ohio, at $257,000. Other Wisconsin cities, such as Janesville, also made the top 20, highlighting the affordability of housing in the region. Peoria, Illinois, holds the lowest median price in the top 20 at $179,000, further emphasizing the appeal of these markets. Overall, homes in July's hottest markets received 2.8 times more views per property than the national average, driven by high demand and limited housing stock. This competitive environment has led to quicker home sales, underscoring the shifting dynamics in the U.S. housing landscape.
