Story

ATLANTA – In a significant enforcement operation on August 8, the DEA Atlanta Division made a historic seizure of over a ton of crystal methamphetamine at the Atlanta State Farmer’s Market in Forest Park, Georgia. The operation resulted in the confiscation of 2,585 pounds of meth, with agents arresting the truck driver, Jesus Martinez Martinez, who was transporting the drugs concealed among boxes of celery. Robert J. Murphy, Special Agent in Charge of the DEA Atlanta Division, emphasized the enormity of the seizure, stating, “This is a significant and unbelievable amount of drugs to be shipped at one time and to a destination this far from the border.” The wholesale value of the seized meth is estimated at approximately $3.2 million, underscoring the scale of the operation and the confidence of the cartel involved. The investigation remains ongoing as the DEA continues to prioritize efforts against the Sinaloa and Jalisco Cartels, which are responsible for a substantial portion of the fentanyl and methamphetamine crisis affecting the United States. These cartels are linked to the rising number of overdose deaths across the country. In light of this incident, the DEA encourages parents and children to educate themselves about the dangers of both legal and illegal drugs. Resources are available on the DEA’s interactive websites, including JustThinkTwice.com and GetSmartAboutDrugs.com, as well as through their social media channels.
