The trade involves two lower-level minor leaguers, outfielder Aidan Smith and right-hander Brody Hopkins, along with a player to be named later. Arozarena, despite a challenging season with a batting average of .211, is recognized for his dynamic play and clutch performances, particularly during the 2020 American League Championship Series and the 2023 World Baseball Classic. The Mariners, who once held a 10-game lead in their division, now find themselves trailing the Houston Astros by a game, exacerbated by injuries to key players like Julio Rodriguez and J.P. Crawford.
