- Jenna Bush Hager confesses to throwing out her kids' trophy.
- Her kid caught her in the act, leading to a funny situation.
- Lesson learned: always check with the kids before getting rid of their things.
During a recent episode of the Today show, Jenna Bush Hager revealed that she was caught by her children after discarding yet another participation trophy. While discussing the importance of decluttering with co-host Hoda Kotb, Bush Hager shared her habit of throwing things away when she feels overwhelmed. “I got busted because there was a trophy I didn’t know they wanted,” she confessed, highlighting the numerous trophies that her kids had accumulated over time. Bush Hager described the trophies as not being for significant achievements, but rather for mere participation, stating, “It was like, ‘You danced! So you get a trophy!’” Despite her children’s initial excitement over the awards, she admitted that they had forgotten about them. Kotb pointed out that Bush Hager was instilling a valuable lesson in her children about the insignificance of material possessions. This candid moment on the show was not the first time Bush Hager expressed guilt over her actions. Earlier in 2023, she admitted to Kotb that she felt tremendous remorse for discarding most of her children's trophies, noting that they had none displayed at home. She humorously acknowledged that her own mother had a similar approach to decluttering, saying, “Well, she does them for me,” as she reflected on her upbringing and the lessons learned about materialism.
