A recently released body camera video has revealed a harrowing encounter between Orange County deputies and Joseph Brandon Gerdvil, 41, who is accused of decapitating his parents in a shocking crime that occurred on July 9 in San Juan Capistrano. The incident unfolded in a mobile home community on Alipaz Street, where deputies were alerted by a niece of the victims after Gerdvil sent disturbing photos of the mutilated bodies to a family member. Upon arrival, deputies discovered the bodies of 79-year-old Antoinette Gerdvil and 77-year-old Ronald Walter Gerdvil, along with their deceased chihuahua. One of the victims' heads was found placed on a counter, underscoring the brutality of the crime. Following an alleged attack on a maintenance worker, deputies located Gerdvil driving a golf cart approximately three miles from the scene. The situation escalated when Gerdvil exited the golf cart and threw a shovel at a deputy's vehicle. Body camera footage captures the tense moment as Gerdvil, clad in blood-soaked clothing and holding a metal water meter, approached the deputy despite orders to stop. The deputy ultimately fired five shots, incapacitating Gerdvil, who was later heard expressing remorse while being handcuffed. Gerdvil was transported to a local hospital in serious but stable condition and has been charged with two counts of homicide. As of August 23, he remains hospitalized while awaiting further legal proceedings.
