A Moreno Valley man was fatally shot on August 12, prompting a swift investigation by the Riverside County Sheriff's Office. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. in the 24000 block of Bostwick Drive, where deputies discovered 30-year-old Gilbert Ramirez deceased at the scene. The investigation quickly focused on identifying the shooter, leading to the arrest of 31-year-old Joe Miramontes Jr. two days later in Pomona. Miramontes has been charged with multiple offenses, including being a felon in possession of a loaded firearm and possession of controlled substances for sale. Additionally, he faces sentence-enhancing allegations related to the use of a firearm and great bodily injury. He is currently being held on a $1.2 million bail at the Murrieta jail. Detectives uncovered that a dispute between Miramontes and Ramirez preceded the shooting, during which Miramontes allegedly drew a firearm and fired multiple shots before fleeing the scene. The investigation led to the issuance of a warrant for his arrest, allowing law enforcement to apprehend him shortly thereafter. Court records reveal that Miramontes has a prior conviction in Riverside County for making criminal threats, raising concerns about his potential for violence. The case continues to unfold as authorities gather more evidence and prepare for upcoming legal proceedings.
