In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Louis-Dreyfus emphasized the potential positive impact this resurgence could have on Harris's campaign, urging viewers to participate in the electoral process. However, she cautioned against equating Harris with her character, Selina Meyer, a fictional and often inept vice president. David Mandel, the executive producer of "Veep," echoed Louis-Dreyfus's sentiments, acknowledging Harris's fandom while criticizing those who misuse clips from the show to undermine her. He noted the joy in Harris's presidential announcement but expressed frustration over the negative interpretations some individuals impose on the series. Mandel affirmed the show's willingness to support Harris's campaign if requested, highlighting the generational shift in media consumption, particularly with platforms like TikTok gaining prominence. As Louis-Dreyfus prepares to campaign for Harris, she aims to clarify the distinction between the vice president and her character, attributing some of the confusion to societal sexism. She remarked on the challenges women face in public perception, particularly when compared to their male counterparts. Armando Iannucci, the creator of "Veep," also dismissed the notion that Selina Meyer was modeled after any real-life politician, reinforcing that the character is purely fictional and not reflective of Harris.
