- A Bengaluru court ordered the filing of an FIR against Nirmala Sitharaman for alleged extortion through electoral bonds.
- Siddaramaiah criticized the Karnataka BJP for not demanding Sitharaman's resignation and suggested that Modi should also resign if an impartial investigation occurs.
- The political tensions in Karnataka are escalating as allegations of corruption surface, impacting the relationship between the Congress party and the BJP.
On Friday, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah demanded the resignation of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman following a Bengaluru court's order to file an FIR against her for alleged extortion related to electoral bonds. This legal action stemmed from a petition by Adarsh Iyer of the Janadhikar Sangharsh Parishad, which prompted the Special Court of People's Representatives to direct the Tilak Nagar police to register the FIR. Siddaramaiah criticized the Karnataka BJP, questioning their silence and inaction regarding Sitharaman's alleged involvement in the scandal. He further suggested that if an impartial investigation were conducted, Prime Minister Narendra Modi should also resign, along with BJP leader HD Kumaraswamy, who is currently on bail. Kumaraswamy responded by questioning the basis of Siddaramaiah's demands, asking if the electoral bond money had gone into Sitharaman's personal account, implying that there was no justification for their resignations. The situation highlights the ongoing political tensions in Karnataka, particularly between the ruling Congress party and the opposition BJP, as allegations of corruption and misuse of power continue to surface in the context of electoral financing.
