Azerbaijan’s Ilham Aliyev said he had achieved the ‘sacred goal’ of his presidency: reclaiming the land taken from his father. Azerbaijan's president has been in Nagorno-Karabakh for 20 years. He said: “I have achieved the goal of reclaiming my father's land. I have achieved it. I am proud to be able to do so,” he said.
Azerbaijan and Armenia accuse each other of shelling military positions in a flare-up of tensions over the last week. The Caucusus neighbors have been accused of shelling each other in a series of incidents in the past week. Azerbaijan has threatened to strike a nuclear power plant in Armenia.
