Simon Harris poised to become taoiseach. Mr Harris is a year younger than Leo Varadkar was when he took the same job in 2017. At 37, he is one of the youngest ever to take over the Irish presidency. He is the same age as Varadarkar, who took over the job last year.

Simon Harris is favourite to replace Leo Varadkar as taoiseach. Harris organised his first political meeting aged 16. Harris is the favourite to take over from the Taoiseach in Dublin next month. He is the son of former DPPI leader Michael O'Neill. Harris has been in the top job for more than a decade.
