Lady Julia Amess attended the ceremony with family members with the life-size statue positioned on a grass bank looking out over the estuary. Sir David was murdered in 2010 in a bid to save the lives of the MP for Essex.

The 69-year-old father of five was stabbed to death while meeting constituents in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, in October 2021. The father-of-five will be buried in Southend, Essex on October 15 in 2021. Sir David Amess was stabbed in the head with a knife at Belfairs Methodist Church in the town.
