Giovinco died during the 1.45pm Midway Novice Chase at Aintree. The horse was being ridden by Stephen Mulqueen at the time of the race. Saturday's Grand National takes place at the same venue on Ladies Day. The Grand National begins on Saturday at the National Hall of Fame.

Giovinco was running in the opening race on the card when he came down at the final fence on the Mildmay course and was later reported to have been fatally injured. Grand National 2024 mourns the first death of the day. GiovinCo was the first horse to die at the Grand National since 2013.
