Columbia prez Minouche Shafik to skip school’s biggest ceremony for graduating seniors after anti-Israel strife

Columbia University quietly announced President Minouche Shafik will skip the Columbia College Class Day ceremony, which is a chance for graduating seniors to walk across the stage and shake hands with university administrators.

The vote comes after the Columbia administration on April 30 called in the NYPD to end the takeover of a campus building, Hamilton Hall, and dismantle the Gaza solidarity encampment, leading to more than 100 arrests in and around campus.

Minouche Shafik was appointed as Columbia’s 20th president in July 2023 and was formally inaugurated just three days before the Hamas terror attack.
