Cadillac and WRT BMW crash leads to red flag at WEC 6 Hours of Spa
- Cadillac and WRT BMW were involved in a crash during the WEC 6 Hours of Spa race.
- The incident led to a red flag being issued with under two hours remaining in the race.
- Fortunately, both drivers, Earl Bamber and Sean Gelael, were okay after the impact.
Two cars, a Cadillac driven by Earl Bamber and a Porsche driven by Neel Jani, crashed during a race. Bamber misjudged the space in front of him and collided with the Porsche, causing his Cadillac to go flying. The Cadillac hit a fence and then collected another car driven by Gelael. Both drivers were okay after the crash. Gelael said it could have been worse and that misjudgments can lead to big accidents. Another Porsche, driven by Penske, also went flying after hitting a curb. Due to the bad weather and to make sure the race could continue, the race officials decided to stop the race and restart it from the time of the accident. The race was the FIA WEC 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps and it was stopped with less than two hours remaining because of the big crash involving Bamber and Gelael. The crash happened when Bamber was trying to pass a BMW to get ahead of the Porsche. He misjudged the space and ended up colliding with the BMW, causing his car to go airborne. The Cadillac hit a wall and Gelael's car. Both drivers were okay after the crash. The race leaders at the time were a Ferrari and a Porsche. The race was stopped for a while to clean up the debris from the crash. The teams were allowed to change their tires while waiting for the race to restart. The race was expected to be a sprint to the finish as the time was running out and the drivers were ready to get back on the track.
