Faculty members in Columbia University's department of Arts and Sciences passed a vote of no confidence against the institution's president, Minouche Shafik over her handling of pro-Palestinian demonstrations.

Shafik had a chance to strike a blow for free speech at English universities in the country's House of Lords — and failed.
