Three teenagers set a house on fire in Denver in August 2020. The fire killed a family of five from Senegal. One of the teenagers, Kevin Bui, admitted to starting the fire. He pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder. He was originally facing 60 charges, but they were dropped as part of a plea deal. Bui will be sentenced on July 2. The victims of the fire were Djibril Diol, his wife Adja, their 2-year-old daughter, Hassan Diol, and her infant daughter. Three people managed to escape by jumping from windows. Bui confessed to the crime during police questioning. He said he targeted that specific house because he believed his stolen phone was there. However, the residents of the house had no connection to the theft. The other two teenagers involved in the arson also pleaded guilty. Gavin Seymour received a 40-year prison sentence, while Dillon Siebert was sentenced to three years in Juvenile Detention and seven years in state prison. The maximum penalty for each second-degree murder charge is 48 years in prison and a fine of up to $1 million.
