Jacques Cooper, train designer whose revolutionary high-speed TGV was inspired by a sports car is dead

Jacques Cooper, who has died aged 93, was the French designer of British origin behind the distinctive aerodynamic orange TGV high-speed train, a source of intense national pride in France since it entered service in 1981.

He borrowed the sloping front and idiosyncratic orange from his design for the Porsche 914 Murène. The TGV went on to set rail speed records
