Spain's Ambassador Recalled from Argentina Due to Insult Incident
- Spain has recalled its ambassador to Argentina following an insult incident involving Argentina's president insulting the Spanish Prime Minister's wife.
- The insult occurred during a meeting of far-right leaders organized by Spain's Vox party, sparking condemnation from the European Union.
- The situation calls for a potential diplomatic crisis that requires delicate handling.
Spain is bringing back its ambassador from Buenos Aires because the Argentine President, Javier Milei, insulted the Spanish Prime Minister's wife at a far-right event in Madrid. The European Union got involved too, with its foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, criticizing Milei's comments. Milei called Pedro Sanchez's wife, Begona Gomez, corrupt during his speech, without directly naming them. Sanchez believes these accusations are part of a plan to harass him politically from the right side. In response, Spain's Foreign Minister, Jose Manuel Albares, announced the recall of the ambassador to Argentina and asked for a public apology from Milei. Albares said it's not okay for a visiting president to insult Spain and its prime minister, breaking diplomatic norms. Milei, who describes himself as an "anarcho-capitalist," won elections in Argentina last November promising to eliminate the country's deficit. He spoke against socialism during his visit to Spain, calling it "satanic." At a rally in Madrid, attended by around 11,000 people, he continued his criticism of socialism. This event took place before the European Parliament elections from June 6-9. Marine Le Pen, a far-right leader from France, also spoke at the event, emphasizing the importance of stricter immigration policies, a common theme among European far-right groups. Pedro Sanchez, the Spanish Prime Minister, mentioned that the "international far-right" gathered in Madrid because they oppose values like feminism, social justice, and workers' rights that Spain represents. One of the attendees, 27-year-old Marisel Cherasco from Argentina, disagreed with Milei's policies, saying they benefit only a few people while harming the majority.
