- The trial highlights the scrutiny surrounding Read's actions and potential motives in the case.
Karen Read's murder trial witness, Jennifer McCabe, was asked tough questions by the defense about Google searches on her phone. McCabe testified that Read asked her to search how long it would take for someone to die in the cold after they found John O'Keefe's body in the snow. Both defense attorney Alan Jackson and prosecutor Adam Lally questioned McCabe on Wednesday. During the trial, multiple paramedics testified that they heard Read saying something like "I hit him" after O'Keefe's body was discovered. In the second week of testimony, jurors started hearing from members of the Albert family. Chris Albert, Brian's brother, was the first family member to testify. Brian Albert mentioned that his phone was failing, so he upgraded it, which happened to coincide with the events. The trial was briefly paused on May 10 to discuss whether Aidan Kearney, known as "Turtleboy" for his website, should be allowed in the courtroom. The third week of testimony began with people who were at Brian Albert's home the night of O'Keefe's death. Julie Nagel, a friend of Brian Albert Jr., testified seeing a "black blob" in the area where O'Keefe's body was found. Jennifer McCabe, who was with Read when O'Keefe's body was discovered, was also questioned. Defense attorneys suggested Colin Albert might have been involved in the fight that led to O'Keefe's death. Colin Albert testified over two days. The week ended with Jennifer McCabe testifying that Read was asking on the phone, "Did I hit him?" The trial involves a woman accused of murdering her police officer boyfriend in Massachusetts. Prosecutors claim Ms. Read ran over O’Keefe in her car while drunk, leaving him for dead in the snow. Jennifer McCabe, who searched "hos (sic) long to die in cold" the morning O’Keefe’s body was found, was questioned about her actions. Allison McCabe, Jennifer's daughter, defended Colin Albert, stating he was not present during the alleged fight. The defense attorney cross-examined key witness Colin Albert, arguing he was involved in the fight leading to O’Keefe’s death. Matthew McCabe and friends were at the bar until midnight when O’Keefe and Karen Read arrived with members of the Albert family later in the evening.
