Rome subway project under ancient ruins enters crucial phase

The construction work is currently focused on building the retaining wall around the main station. This wall will keep water out and secure the construction site. Once completed, the subway will have underground connections to important monuments and museums in Rome. The engineers are being very careful near delicate sites like the Trajan’s Column. The chief engineer is confident that the project will be successful, but he jokes that if anything happens to the Trajan’s Column, he is ready to leave the country.
