NewsNation completes transition to become a cable news outlet next week
- The NewsNation television network, previously WGN America, is transitioning into a 24/7 news outlet.
- Nexstar acquired the network in 2020, leading to this transformation.
- The completion of the transition is scheduled for next week.
NewsNation is changing its weekend schedule to focus only on news. This change started in 2020. On June 1, a new three-hour news show hosted by Adrienne Bankert will air on Saturdays and Sundays at 4 p.m. Eastern Time. This show will replace reruns of "Blue Bloods." The network is known for being nonpartisan, meaning it doesn't support any specific political party. Over the past year, NewsNation has been adding more news programs for weekends. One of these is a political show on Sundays hosted by Chris Stirewalt, who used to work at Fox News. NewsNation took over the WGN America network when it was bought by Nexstar. Before becoming NewsNation, WGN America showed mostly reruns of entertainment programs. On weekdays, NewsNation's evening lineup features well-known hosts like Dan Abrams, Chris Cuomo, and Ashleigh Banfield.
