Story

Four years ago, George Floyd died in Minneapolis after a police officer kneeled on his neck. This event led to protests and calls for change around the world. Recently, a celebration called Rise and Remember was held at George Floyd Square to honor his memory. People gathered to reflect and support each other. George Floyd's family members have been working with House Democrats in Washington D.C. to introduce the "George Floyd Justice in Policing Act." This bill aims to reform the police at a federal level. Floyd's sister, Bridgett Floyd, wants the world to remember her brother as someone important who can bring about positive change. In 2021, Derek Chauvin, the former police officer involved in Floyd's death, was convicted of murder and manslaughter. He is currently serving a long prison sentence. Last year, Chauvin was stabbed multiple times in prison. He is also facing a lawsuit for excessive force in a separate incident. Despite the protests and policy changes that followed Floyd's death, his family and others affected by police violence feel that real change has not yet been achieved. They continue to advocate for justice and reform in law enforcement.
