- Cole nearing rehab assignment to rejoin Yankees.
- Yankees pitcher hitting goals in recovery journey.
Gerrit Cole, a pitcher for the New York Yankees, hurt his right elbow but is getting better. He threw two short innings in a practice game and felt good about it. He faced some minor league players in Tampa, Florida, in front of his family and other players. Cole was happy with how he pitched and said he met his goals by throwing a lot of good pitches. Cole hadn't pitched to batters since spring training, but he plans to do it again soon. He wants to recover well and be ready to pitch in a real game next week. Cole got injured in spring training and had to rest because of inflammation in his elbow. He started practicing again in May and is now working towards playing in games. To get back to playing for the Yankees, Cole might need to pitch in a few minor league games first. If all goes well, he could be back with the team by late June. Cole hasn't decided yet when he will start playing in the minor leagues. He joined the Yankees in March after playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
