Memorial Day events were happening in Los Angeles County. In Arcadia, people enjoyed tasty barbecue at the Smorgasburg BBQ Invitational at Santa Anita Park. Yuba City community kept a tradition of honoring military personnel and veterans for over 30 years on Memorial Day. Bellavia, an Iraq war veteran, shared his experiences of war and sacrifice at the A Grateful Nation Remembers program at Calvary Christian Center. He received an award for his heroic efforts to save his unit members in 2004. People from all over the country gathered to honor active-duty military members, veterans, and those who never returned home. Retired Master Sergeant David Haney helps organize reenactments to honor those who sacrificed for freedom. The program aims to honor and remember those who served and continue to serve the country. The Freedom Hero's Memorial outside the church has 21 panels with over 7,000 names of Fallen Warriors. The Memorial Day Ceremony on May 27 at Calvary Christian Center honors fallen heroes and those who served in the Armed Forces.
