Rep. Pat Ryan raises concerns over low percentage of Americans serving in the military

Rep. Pat Ryan and Rep. Mike Waltz were on a TV show called "Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan." They talked about how there are very few Americans who are in the military, less than 1%. They think this is a problem for democracy. They want more people to serve in the military. They said they are working to get more people to join the military. They want to make sure each branch of the military has enough people. They also talked about a tradition where they wash the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on Memorial Day. Rep. Waltz started this tradition. He said it's important for people to see lawmakers from different backgrounds honoring veterans together. He wants more veterans to be in Congress. He thinks serving the country is not just about being in the military. Waltz suggested that young people should do a year of service after they graduate.
