Story

Los Angeles County public health officials were told about a person who had measles and had traveled through Los Angeles International Airport last week. The person arrived at the airport on a Lufthansa Flight on Sunday and left a few hours later. The traveler came on Lufthansa Flight LH 452 and then connected to Flight LH 7852. Health officials are advising people who might have been near this person to check with their doctor to make sure they are vaccinated against measles. If someone hasn't had measles before and hasn't been vaccinated, they could get sick. Measles is a serious illness that spreads easily through the air and by direct contact. Dr. Muntu Davis, the LA County Health Officer, says that measles can cause fever, cough, red eyes, and a rash. It can be especially dangerous for young children and adults who are at risk. Symptoms of measles include high fever, runny nose, white spots in the mouth, and a rash that starts on the face and spreads to the body. The virus can stay in the air and on surfaces for hours, making it easy to catch. Measles can be spread even before the rash appears and for several days after.
