Story

North Korea tried to launch a spy satellite into space, but it failed. The rocket carrying the satellite exploded in the air on Monday. This happened after North Korea announced its plan to launch the satellite, which made its neighboring countries upset. South Korea's military detected the launch of the rocket from North Korea's space center at 10:44 p.m. on Monday. The rocket was fired towards the south off the west coast of the Korean Peninsula. The authorities are checking if the launch was successful. Earlier on Monday, North Korea informed Japan about its plan to launch a satellite rocket between Monday and June 3. Japan issued a missile alert for Okinawa but later lifted it when they realized the missile was not a threat to their region. This was North Korea's second attempt to launch a spy satellite. The first try failed when the rocket carrying the satellite crashed into the ocean. North Korea is not allowed to launch satellites according to the U.N. because they see it as a way to test long-range missiles. North Korea's leader, Kim, believes that spy satellites will help them keep an eye on the military activities of the U.S. and South Korea, making their nuclear-capable missiles more threatening. The launch happened right after South Korea, China, and Japan had a meeting in Seoul, which is unusual because North Korea usually doesn't provoke during important regional diplomacy.
