Story

An officer used his police car to stop a suspect during a chase. The Los Angeles Police Department shared a video of the chase involving a person accused of trying to kill someone, who was riding a bike on the I-5 Freeway. This unusual event took place on April 26. A 24-year-old named John Lopez reportedly shot his brother after an argument in the Montecito Heights neighborhood. Lopez quickly left on his bike before the police got there. However, a police helicopter saw Lopez biking at a specific location and directed officers to him. Lopez then went onto the I-5 Freeway, where officers stopped traffic to follow him. He rode for about a mile on the freeway before leaving at an exit. The police kept following him as he weaved through traffic until he turned around. At that point, an officer hit Lopez and his bike with the police car, causing him to fall. Other officers then arrested Lopez as he surrendered. He complained of knee pain and was taken to a hospital before being charged with attempted murder. The police found a small gun at the end of the chase. The department's Force Investigation Division is looking into the incident.
