A climber from Kenya named Joshua Cheruiyot Kirui died on Mt. Everest last week. He was trying to reach the top without extra oxygen. Sadly, he fell into a crack close to the peak, along with his guide from Nepal. His family decided to leave his body on the mountain because it's too dangerous to bring it down from such a high place. They thought about it carefully and talked to many people before making this choice. They didn't want to risk more lives trying to rescue him. Kirui's family also considered the high cost of bringing his body back home, which would have been around $190,000. Many families of climbers who die on Everest choose to leave their loved ones there. Almost 200 out of 330 climbers who passed away on the mountain are still there. Before his final climb, Kirui had trained a lot and felt ready for the challenge. He believed he could make it to the top without extra oxygen. He had a plan for emergencies, with support from his guide Nawang. Unfortunately, Nawang is still missing. Mountaineer Satyadeep Gupta recently made history by climbing both Mt. Everest and Mt. Lhotse in record time. He became the first person to do this twice in one season. Gupta also set a new record for the fastest Indian-origin climber to reach the top of Mt. Everest. Mount Everest is a famous mountain that attracts brave adventurers. A young climber named Kaamya Karthikeyan holds the current record for being the youngest Indian to reach the summit. She achieved this at just 16 years old, following in her father's footsteps. Kaamya's story inspires many young people and shows the increasing role of women in mountaineering. Her success is celebrated on International Everest Day, which falls on May 28th.
